Olympic Fever Hits Richmond

Monday, February 8th, 2010

In one week the citizens of Richmond will be welcoming participants, spectators and travellers to its city for the XXI (21st) Olympic Winter Games. Already I can feel the atmosphere changing. People are becoming excitedly expectant as enthusiasm overtakes the past passive negativity. Two weeks before the Winter Games officially begin there is anticipation in the air.

Changes to our physical landscape with Olympic construction, new venue signs and community events are all helping to fueling anticipation of the Olympic flame lighting our island. Recently, J Malone’s Bar and Grill, a popular pub for many locals, hosted a successful “Show Your Olympic Spirit” event. Construction at the Richmond Ozone (Richmond’s official celebration site, featuring Heineken House) is visibly underway at Minoru Park. One can see changes to street signs with the appearance of Olympic venue and celebration site directional markers.

Olympic fever is in the air over Richmond. With this much excitement surrounding the Olympics now, I personally can’t wait to see what will happen come February 12th when Olympic celebrations officially get underway in Richmond.
