BLENZ CARES – Community Coffee Sales program

Tradeworks Training Society of British Columbia.

Based in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver BC, Tradeworks Training Society helps foster sustainable independence by providing job-related skills training, counseling, and work opportunities.
Tradeworks Training Society has been offering training and employment programs in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver since 1994. Each program is centered in the belief that mutual respect is key to any relationship, and that a hand up is more lasting than a hand out.

Thank you for presenting the Blenz Cares program to us and dropping off a cheque made out to Tradeworks, courtesy of Kathy Sayers. We understand her company Hat Trick participated through the corporate sponsorship component of your program. Tradeworks Training Society is pleased to be a beneficiary of the Blenz Cares program. We confirm that we are a registered charity & non-profit society.

For your reference, donations that we will derive from the program will be dedicated to our women’s workshop program and the related social enterprise, Tradeworks Custom Products. This is a project through which women in the Downtown East Side (“DTES”) are offered an opportunity to learn woodworking and related skills, build a positive community and earn money through employment. Many of the women we work with have been through some difficult times and they are working to turn their lives around.

Our project trains women and then offers casual employment, with an expectation that
subsequently many will have both the confidence and the ability to move into conventional employment. We provide a safe place, supplementary meals, and peer support. And then we provide instruction, mentoring and work experience.

The project is in part funded by the sale of custom made wood products. It is an enterprise that hopes to be self-supporting in due course. Blenz Cares Fills Empty Stockings

Since its inception late last spring, Blenz Cares – a fundraising program helping charities and non-profit organizations– has been making a difference throughout BC’s Lower Mainland. For the month of December,
2008, Blenz Cares worked in partnership with The Province Empty Stocking Fund.
After 85 years, The Empty Stocking Fund continues to raise funds to bring Christmas to needy families and children in BC. The sales from the Blenz Cares coffee beans sold at the Blenz stores in December supported these under privileged families through the Empty Stocking Fund. Blenz and The Empty Stocking Fund extend a warm “Thank You!” to everyone who supported this important charity by purchasing the Blenz Cares coffee beans. Another notable philanthropic effort supported by Blenz Cares is the support of the Learning Disability Association of BC who provides programs and services to people with learning disabilities in BC. Over and above the Butterfly Pin donations collected at the Blenz locations, Blenz Cares handed a $3000 cheque to the Association. During tough economic times, charitable organizations struggle to finance their programs; particularly painful is the notable reduction in corporate donations. BlenzCares new fundraising partner

BlenzCares becomes a fundraising partner with British Columbia Centre for Ability

Founded in 1969, the BC Centre for Ability was fomerly known as the Neurological Centre.
It is a non-profit organization that provides services to more than 3,000 children, youth and adults with neurological, physical and developmental disabilities, and their families. Since its inception, the Centre has been delivering a wide range of high quality community-based services using a family centered approach. It promotes the right of individuals with disabilities to participate as valued members of their communities. These individuals are our “Heroes of Ability”. It is about what they can do and what they can accomplish inspite of challenges.
