If you know anything about B.C. Hockey Hall-of-Fame member Ernie ‘Punch’ McLean, then you will know he always plays the game full out.
With the Olympics coming to Vancouver, Ernie volunteered – and winds up being an Official Host for Olympic Hockey! That means he is in his glory, and talking to us about it all.
Today’s Mens’ game between Sweden and Germany was won by Sweden, 2-0, led by a power play goal from Matthias Olund.
His impression: it was a wide open game. Germany took quite a few penalties and Lundquist played well in goal for Sweden. A couple of bad hits resulted in 10-minute misconducts – one for each team.
The passing was unbelievable, because we were seeing some of the most skilled players in the world. The crowd was great – some of the outfits were outstanding, like the fans from Holland all dressed in orange – and there was very little trouble with excited fans.
In short: great hockey, skilled players and enthusiastic fans! Ernie (Punch) had his picture taken lots of times, too. This was Ernie’s first live Olympic Hockey experience. Watch this space: he will be back for more!
Ernie ‘Punch’ McLean coached WHL New Westminster Bruins, created hockey training systems used by the NHL today, and is honored in the B.C. Hockey Hall of Fame. Marilyn Anderson is a Communications Specialist and Co-Founder of Duet Media.
